Active USW employees only On the first day of class, students will start by going over some basic techniques and materials and then weld a few billets of Damascus from high-quality carbon steels. Then, students will forge a blade from their Damascus billet and heat treat it. Students learn forging techniques, use a power hammer and hydraulic press, as well as hand forging to shape your knife. Students will learn the heat treat process and proper edge geometry needed.
